Therapy Process

Beginning with an initial call (no fee), we can assess whether we’re the right fit for one another. I’m interested in why you’re seeking therapy now and what function you would like it to play in your life. You can ask any questions you have and get a feel for how I work.

After this, we can book a session which will be centered on getting to know you. I will ask questions about your life and the world you inhabit, trying to make a picture of who you are. This may take more than one session to deepen into the enquiry. I will share with you my impression of what seems to be happening, in relation to past and present experiences. We can find goals to work on together and gradually build trust in our relationship.

We will be co-creating a space in which you feel comfortable sharing freely, showing yourself to another in radical new ways and uncovering aspects of yourself that may have been hidden or buried long ago.

My ethos and approach are built on attachment theory, which prioritizes the slow repairing of the inner world through corrective experiences with another.

Working through trauma is a slow and nonlinear process, requiring patience. We will generally need to have around 20 sessions together before direct trauma processing can begin, to ensure the nervous system is stable enough to undertake such a dramatic experience. Integration is also an important aspect of this work.

It can be difficult to predict how long the therapy will last for. I generally suggest coming to sessions weekly in order to keep the momentum and to move deeply. After a few months people tend to notice a difference in how their emotions are operating in their life, and their relationship with themself is more informed. Ultimately, therapy is for the client and led by the client so can be revised or terminated at any point by you.
