Therapy Process
Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step. You may know exactly what brings you, or you may simply have a sense that something isn't working—that you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or repeating patterns that no longer serve you. Wherever you're starting from, we'll begin there together.
Getting to know you
Our first few sessions are an opportunity for me to understand your story, what has brought you to therapy, and what you're hoping for. We'll explore your current difficulties alongside the relationships, experiences, and ways of adapting that have shaped your life.
As I begin to develop an understanding of your experiences, I'll share my thoughts with you and invite your reflections. Together, we'll develop a shared understanding of what's happening and identify meaningful areas to focus on. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we'll continue to shape our work together as your needs evolve.
Working together
There is no single way to do therapy. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, tailoring the work to your unique needs, preferences, and goals. Alongside conversation and reflection, we may explore emotions, bodily sensations, memories, dreams, or recurring patterns in your relationships and everyday life.
At times, if it feels appropriate, we may also work outdoors. Nature can offer a different way of experiencing ourselves—creating space to slow down, reconnect with the body, and remember that we are part of something larger than our immediate concerns. The more-than-human world can become a gentle companion in therapy, offering perspective, grounding, and a sense of life held within a wider context.
Working in relationship
The relationship we build together is an important part of therapy. I'll encourage honest conversations about how you experience our work and will check in regularly to ensure therapy continues to feel safe, collaborative, and meaningful. Sometimes the most significant moments of change emerge through talking openly about what is happening between us.
How change unfolds
Meaningful change rarely happens all at once. More often, it develops gradually through many small moments of insight, emotional experience, self-compassion, and new ways of relating. Over time, people often find themselves responding differently—to themselves, to others, and to life's challenges—with greater flexibility, confidence, and trust.
Therapy is rarely a straight line. We often return to familiar themes more than once, but each time with greater awareness, deeper understanding, and increased capacity. Like a spiral, we revisit what matters from a different place, allowing change to deepen over time. My hope is that, through this process, you come to feel more fully yourself and more able to engage with your life in the ways that matter most.
